The Valencic Family Newsletter

started February 10th, 2004 Edition (and finished March 10th...)

Sorry about the long break between updates.  We've been busy!  Packing, mostly, but also looking for a place to live.  We thought we'd be in Pennsylvania by now.  It looks like we will be moving the 21st, as we *may* have found a house on the outskirts of the town we are moving to.  This is pending, as we have not signed the lease yet, and are still waiting on Tom's company to let us know what we need to do to get the moving truck lined up.

Tom is doing well in his new territory, with his brand new store open now, and his other two doing well after some problems with winter weather in one of them.  (even having to close once!)  He is getting tired of living out of a suitcase in the various area hotels, and looks forward to FINALLY being able to go to a real home after work each night (and sometimes home for lunch)  Yep, you heard that right, he misses our chaos hehe.

We had a good Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Thanksgiving was Michael's birthday, and we had a great day with the missionaries over for dinner and to watch a movie with us.  December was a bit difficult with Tom out of town every other week, in Pennsylvania.  He was home the 2nd and 4th weeks, so he was home for Christmas.  The last week of December (starting the 29th) was a little mixed up as he relinquished his old stores to a new rep and started full time with his PA stores.  He was in PA until New Year's Eve, and then came home and was home for a lot of the rest of the week.  Ever since then our routine is the same.  Monday mornings he drives to PA, to return Friday evenings.  The weather has been bad at times for his travel, but we are grateful that he has always arrived safely.

 March 10th...
Well, we are moved in to our new home in Pennsylvania.  The move took place on a snowy day in February... wonderful weather for packing the day before, nasty weather the day of the move!  You should all have our new address and phone number, if not, email and I will send it again.  We are getting unpacked slowly but surely.  Obviously we have the computer up, just a few boxes in each room that need our attention.  (other than the kitchen and the front *upstairs living* room.)

The kids are adjusting well.  The huge yard is nice, and I didn't let the kids play outside when the creek was really high from snowmelt last week (it flooded the yard for the building supply next door)  It's nice that we can actually find our driveway now that the 2 feet of snow melted.  It was sure fun trying to figure out what to do with a 26 ft moving truck in that much snow!

We were able to get enough done that we were able to get to church the next day (with careful planning from before we moved) and the new branch was so helpful!  They brought meals and also helped unload the behemoth truck.

Tom got his company car after a week in the new area and so I have my van again to get things done during the day, like working on car insurance, utilities, banking, shopping, etc.

As for the kids- quick updates-

Michael is 7, loving the new house, new class, turning 8 this year and being baptized, the cool basement family room, huge yard, checking the mail himself, and exploring.  He is also getting a huge appetite, maybe a big growth spurt is coming on!

Benjamin is 5, misses his library, (so do I!) , having trouble adjusting with worse mood swings than normal, but loving the new place other than all that.  We are working on getting back to a routine that fits everyone.

Emilie is 3, but tells everyone that she will be 4 on Easter this year (although for a while she was telling everyone she would turn 12, or 6, or 9...)  She introduces all her siblings as well.  She likes the new house and her new room (which she is sharing with Nat) and seems to be adjusting well to a small Primary and there not being many girls anywhere near.

Nathanael will be 1 in 2 weeks.  He can stand on his own, but not really much interest in walking other than a few steps here and there between Mom and Dad.  He is fascinated with the basement stairs, and we all work hard to keep him off them.  He can climb up them fine, but there is no railing on either side and I would prefer a little more safety first!  He claps, says Mama and Dada, has 7 teeth, and blows excellent raspberries.... he can also "click" his tongue, to the excitement of the kids.  He is learning to drink from a cup.

We will try and keep this site updated better in the future!  It's just been a busy 4 months!
